About
There are thousands of books, magazines and websites detailing how to get fit, grow stronger and/or lose weight. I’ve read many of them and I’m shocked at how many are incorrect, offer bad advice which is totally unsuitable for beginners/inexperienced athletes or just repeat common myths that scientists have proved wrong.
So this blog is my attempt, to document and synthesise the good information that I find in a way that is suitable for the everyday athlete that’s just trying to get fitter, stronger or slimmer. Where possible I’ll link the information to related scientific studies in the hope that this site will help remove some of the mystery and dispel some of the myths surrounding getting fitter, stronger, healthier and losing weight.
About Me
I’m John, I’m in my early 30’s and I’m currently working on improving my strength and fitness after a decade of neglect. You see after I left uni and joined the rat race I stopped exercising and my diet went rapidly downhill. Then I started my own business which resulted in my diet, strength and fitness becoming even more neglected. Since November 2008 I’ve been working on fixing that, steadily losing weight, getting stronger and becoming fitter.
As a youngster I raced mountain bikes competitively, weight trained regularly and even did some competitive fell running once. On and off since 2001 I’ve dabbled with running, completing the Bath half marathon twice (slowly) and numerous 10k races (also slowly).
Looking to the future I’m running Bath half marathon again in 2010 – hoping to achieve a respectable time. I’m also running the Endurancelife Costal Trail Series (one 10k race every month for seven months) starting in November 2009. Strengthwise I’m working on my squat, bench and deadlift with a view to entering a powerlifting competition sometime in 2010.
